Richmond's very own "Dog Dude"
Matt and Moose on a break from Nosework
Matt's two dogs: Moose and Annabel
Matt stumbled his way into Off Leash K9 Training a little over three years ago when his pitbull mix, Annabel, was in dire need of some off leash training. While a very smart dog and excellent INSIDE, she was a bit of a rascal and loved to play tag, her favorite game, while outside off leash. After graduating from OLK9's Basic and Advanced Obedience Programs, Annabel became an ambassador for her breed, and Matt was sold on Off Leash K9 Training's ability to change peoples' lives in addition to their canine companions. Matt loves talking with clients and discussing how his obedience programs will meet their unique training needs in order to establish a happy and healthy hierarchy within the clients' "pack."
Matt was hired as OLK9 Richmond's first trainer by Joe Zitzelberger over 3 years ago. In 2015, Matt was promoted to Head Trainer, and he has served in that capacity ever since, training over 1,500 dogs. Matt has trained extensively under Nick White, founder/owner of Off Leash K9 Training and Joe Zitzelberger, owner of several OLK9 franchises across the country. Matt recently opened his own OLK9 location in Wilmington, Delaware (wilmingtondogtrainer.com).
Matt is a Richmond, Virginia native. Growing up on the Northside, Matt graduated from St. Christopher's School in 2010 before attending James Madison University, where graduated with a Master's Degree in Education in addition to a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science.
When he is not training dogs, Matt likes to play sports and compete, hang out with friends, take his dogs on adventures, or pretty much anything outdoors when the weather is nice!
